The Hurst Drive project in Barrie is part of the Cities Active transportation program. This project provides further cycling lanes through a residential area.

The Solution

The hurst drive project included the development of cyling lanes, new curbs and gutters as well as ways to manage stormwater. The project specfied the Filterra bio-rentention units along the cycling path.

Filterra units are a engineered bio-retention system used to not only manage stormwater but also to remove pollutants such as phosphorus. filteera units meet the LID design criteria and provide a sustainable solution to treating run off. As biofilterra units require a form of vegetation, these units are complete with shrubs which also provides an aesthetically pleasing view for resdiences who will be taking advantage of these new paths.
